Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In 166 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs.

Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. Rotary District 7640 encompasses six counties of southern New Jersey:
Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem

The district is comprised of fifty-four (54) Rotary Clubs with over 1600 Rotarians making up its membership base, which is very diverse due to the wide scope of classifications it represents.

The district is subdivided into eight (8) areas each with an Assistant Governor, whose primary responsibility is to assist the governor with the administration of their designated clubs and also employs two Assistant Governors.
